Ms. Chaturvedi, Subi

 

Subi Chaturvedi is an activist- academician, an assistant professor of journalism and communication at the Lady Shri Ram College For Women, Delhi University, India & also an active research scholar at the Indian Institute of technology (IIT-D) where her PhD thesis examines Media Ecological Succession and Global Internet Governance Models proposing a working model for India.

As an activist for freedom of expression and human rights: Subi is the co-director of the critically acclaimed documentary FREEDOM SONG, a film on freedom of speech and expression in contemporary India. Her paper on Food Security and nutrition justice- has been published by OXFAM & IDS. She is also coordinating and leading the India campaign for Stop Think Connect and working towards making generating awareness about the best practises amongst the youth and new users of the internet to make it a safe secure and sustainable enabling platform for development.

She is widely published on New Media Technology, its social shaping, impact of internet on society & issues of global governance She is also a leading columnist in one of the country’s preeminent news dailies, the Indian Express. As a media critic and scholar she writes extensively on best practices on Internet governance and the way forward through a bottoms up, inclusive, multistakeholder, approach to preserve core internet values.  The role of youth in public policy and engendering technology are also some of the themes that find mention in her multimedia productions and advocacy campaigns for digital and media policy literacy.

Subi is a member of the Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) for the India Internet Governance Conference (IIGC), 2012, the International Association for Women in Radio and television (IAWRT) and the Internet Society (ISOC). Her paper on the New media new ethics at the Asia Media Summit (AMS) 2012 was very well received. She has also conducted numerous workshops on reporting and framing issues on peace building & conflict resolution, and crisis communication for senior journalists and professionals across the country. She put together a half day session at the India IIGC which featured a Youth Debate on Internet governance. Subi also was a panellist on digital and traditional media she moderated the closing session.

In the last Global IGF 2012, held at Baku Subi contributed on several panels on Access and diversity Relating national and regional IGFs, What’s at stake, Local Content Production and Dissemination as a driver of Access, Capacity building initiatives for better social and economic inclusion of vulnerable people, Internet And Human Rights: Shared Values For Sound Policies, Cybersecurity and cyberspace for vulnerable people

Wide International exposure of best practices and is  familiar with international grading and rating system ,travelled to several schengen countries to observe first hand the internet and youth engagement which has resulted into several multimedia curatorial projects. She was part of the design jury, at the IBC Amsterdam ,which examined Global Standards on Media Broadcast Industry, content creation and delivery and observed the process at world photo awards at Cannes. She has also served as the jury for the Canon India’s photo Marathon on themes of sustainable engagement.

Photography, Visual design and Visual communication- Subi has conceived new programs and  imparted guidance in the country’s leading Universities and technology institutes like IITs, DU & AJK MCRC, JMI. Her personal and curatorial work has also travelled globally and has been showcased at galleries of repute internationally
