Mr. Hany Mahmoud

 

Mr. Hany Mahmoud is the Minister of Communications and Information Technology of the Arab Republic of Egypt, having taken his oath on 2 August 2012.

Prior to this, in 2011, Mr. Mahmoud was director of the Informationand Decision Support Center (IDSC), before which he served as chairman of Egypt Post.

Mr. Mahmoud has extensive experience in the field of information and communications technology on both the national and international levels,much of which he gained through working in multinational companies.

In 2000, Mr. Mahmoud joined Vodafone Egypt as general manager of human resources, administrative and legal affairs. During a decade with Vodafone, he served as president of Vodafone Turkey, from 2005 to 2007; vice president of Vodafone Egypt, from 2007 to 2008; chairman of Vodafone Turkey, from 2008 to 2009; and regional manager for Central Europe and Africa, from 2009 to 2010.

Prior to this, Mr. Mahmoud worked for Xerox. He began with Xerox in Egypt as a maintenance manager, before serving as manager of customer services for Alexandria and the Delta, manager of financial operations and customer accounts, administrative manager in Alexandria, and general manager of customer services and manufacturing. In 1994, he took the position of marketing manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), and in 1996 became regional human resources manager, based in the United Kingdom. From 1997 to 1999, Mr. Mahmoud served as general manager of human resources, work quality and customer satisfaction for XEROX .

Mr. Mahmoud is a member of the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate and the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, and senior vice president of the board of directors of Special Olympics for the Middle East and North Africa. From 2002 to 2008, he served as president of the Egyptian Human Resources Management Association (EHRMA).

Mr. Mahmoud holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from Alexandria University and has completed academic courses and training programs at London Business School, INSEAD, IMD Business School, the University of Sheffield, Xerox Leadership Academy and Vodafone Academy.
