If you have applied for full travel support, the UN-IGF will provide you a return ticket to Addis Ababa, a Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA) and a stipend to cover terminal expenses and visa fees. Participants who applied for partial travel support will only receive DSA. Please read carefully the information below and provide the information requested.
Transportation And Air Ticket
The route will be determined by the UN Travel Agency partner based on the UN Travel Rules, which stipulates that all official travel shall be the most economical route available, provided that the total additional travel time required for the whole journey does not exceed by four hours or more of that required for the most direct route.
The official departure date must allow the traveller to arrive at the place of the meeting, generally the day before its commencement. The official return date usually is the day after the conference has ended. The official travel dates for IGF 2022 are arriving to Addis Ababa on 27 November and departing on 3 December 2022.
Please note that any deviation from the official travel dates and official route require prior authorization from the Secretariat and is considered a private deviation. More information on United Nations Travel Rules and Regulations is available here
Please note that additional costs resulting from a private deviation will be at your expense and will have to be paid directly to the travel agency.
Air Ticket issuance process
1. Based on the information provided by the Traveller, IGF Secretariat submits the Travel Request (TR)
2. The Travel Unit approves the TR and issues a Travel Authorization (TA)
3. Based on the TA, the UN Travel Agency Partner sends by email an itinerary proposal to the Traveller
4. The Traveller confirms the itinerary within a maximum time period of 24h.
5. UN Travel Agency Partner issues and sends by email the air ticket to the Traveller
Visa, travel documents and health requirements
The traveller is responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant foreign entry requirements and that any travel documents, such as passports and visas, are in order. The traveller must check the entry, visa, and health regulations to enter Ethiopia, considering any transfer points; and always carry a valid ID document, as well the international certificate of vaccination throughout your journey, as required.
The IGF Secretariat will not be responsible for costs related to quarantine and access restrictions when returning from Ethiopia imposed by your country of residence. Any other costs on your way back to your country of residence, including those related to COVID-19 and the possibility of being tested positive, are your responsibility or the responsibility of your organization.

If you have applied for full travel support, please keep your e-visa document and payment receipt.
Payment of per diem and other expenses
A daily allowance is provided to cover expenses like meals, accommodation and other personal expenses. Costs associated to covid tests and travel insurance are not reimbursed and should be covered from the DSA. The rate of DSA for Addis Ababa as of 1st September 2022 is USD 209. Arrangements for accommodation are the responsibility of the meeting participant. We recommend you to always keep your hotel invoice or payment receipt, as an additional proof of travel.
If you have applied for full travel support, you are entitled to payment of terminal expenses to cover all expenditures for transportation and incidental charges between the airport or other point of arrival or departure and the hotel or other place of dwelling. The current rate is USD 78 for New York and USD 47 for other Airports, per leg. A return trip usually consists of four legs.
Travel Expense Report
When the travel is fully completed, all participants are required to send the copies of their boarding passes to [email protected]. If the documentation is not received, the UN-IGF reserves the right to recover the payments.
