Promoting equitable development and preventing harm: How can we make use of digital technologies to promote more equitable and peaceful societies that are inclusive, resilient and sustainable? How can we make sure that digital technologies are not developed and used for harmful purposes? What values and norms should guide the development and use of technologies to enable this?
The session will address peace building from digital spaces, focusing on historically marginalized populations in digital and face-to-face spaces.

5.b
Targets: Our session advocates for gender equality online, to build safe spaces for all.
Description:
This session aims to raise awareness and allow the possibility to exchange ideas and good practices on the issues of the LGBTIQ+ community and Women in online environments in Latin America.
All the organizers and facilitators are involved in different projects with regional focus on the rights of women and the LGBTIQ+ community in Latin America, so the first part of the session (15 minutes) will be dedicated to a brief overview of the situation of women and LGBTIQ+ community in Internet in their countries and the presentation of some online tools that we have been using to fight gender based violence in these contexts.
Afterwards, attendees will be divided into groups and will be asked to share experiences and tools used to tackle gender based violence online. The group discussion will take 30 minutes: 20 minutes to share experiences, and 10 minutes to discuss strategies.
Finally, in the last part of the session, the groups will be asked to share the outcomes of the discussions produced in this session in order to brainstorm for the creation of a practical guide of best practices for feminist and LGBTIQ+ activists to work against gender based violence in Internet.
This session has two main purposes, which are: (1) to identify and discuss some of the key issues involving the online experiences of the LGBTIQ+ community and Women in Latin America; and (2) to share and draft tools that help to create a safer and more inviting online environment for women and queer people.
In order to do so, the session will allow for both, idea sharing from specifics speakers and audience participation through a brainstorming process that will occur in separate groups.
The outcomes of this session can be divided into 2 groups: (1) the first being awareness raising and an opportunity to share ideas on the topic in the context of the Latin American region and (2) the second the drafting and release of a guide with best practices for feminist and LGBTIQ+ activists to work against gender based violence online by the session organizers.
Virtual and in-person attendees will be able to use the technological tools (Kahoot) from their location to actively participate in the session. This will also influence the dynamics of the session to maintain the interest of the participants.
